Can I just say I had a love hate relationship with Once? My favorite scene was when she was willing to marry in order to save Caleb. It made me so sad and I hated it but I wanted it because Caleb is one of my favorite characters. The reason I was so upset was because, well yeah you know =’(
My favorite quote: “Sometimes it seems like all the things I need to know, I don’t. And all the things I do know are completely wrong.” This is so true, I feel this way a LOT more than I’d like to admit and it just hit home with me.
I would love to win Rise! How do we enter?
Of course I loved every moment of Caleb and Eve together, but there was something about Eve’s interactions with her father that had me going hmmm. But all in all it’s so hard to pick just one moment from either book, they’re both amazing and to have the chance to win/read an advanced copy of Rise?? That would be perfect!
“I love you, I love you, I love you.”
– Eve
I loved the scene where Eve and Caleb saw each other for the first time in Once and Caleb was standing in the crowd! It was so romantic and I think I screamed at that point!
“Love was death’s only adversary, the only thing powerful enough to combat its clawing, desperate grasp.”
I looked at his face, tense with worry. Then he stepped toward me, bringing me into a hug. For once, I didn’t pull away. It was inescapable, irresistible, even after all he’d done. I saw myself every time he held his fingers to his chin when he was thinking, or smiled with his mouth closed. We argued the same way, our words short and even, had the same pale complexion, his hair was once the same dark reddish-brown hair as mine— though his was now peppered with gray. He was part of me, the connection undeniable, no matter how much I fought against it.

This scene made me cry. I didn’t have the best relationship with my father when I was younger but he is here for me now. At one point i remember feeling what Eve felt in this scene
“I wished to no longer hear the grayed bones crunching underneath the brush or feel the now inexorable fear that seemed to work its way inside my rib cage, rocking me at my core.”
SO BLOODY EXCITED FOR RISE

I MUST know what happens- its really not fair. I can’t sleep- help me out!
OOps- i forgot to leave my favorite scene. Honestly, it still is from the Eve- when she finally realizes what they are doing and that she is not going away to college. Freaked me out!
My favorite EVE trilogy scene:When Teacher Florence helps EVE escape the School.
My favorite EVE trilogy quote:”This feels right to me. It’s everything else that’s screwed up.” -Caleb, ONCE
Favourite eve scene when she was explaining to the boys about what is love….”love is just”-I searched for the right words-”caring about someone very deeply.Feeling like that person matters to you, like your whole world would be sadder without them in it.
One of my favorite scenes from Eve. Leif gripped Benny’s shoulders to hold him back, but he broke free and chased the truck, pumping his tiny arms and legs with great furry.
“I love you!” he called out, when he was just ten feet away. I gripped the metal bars, my throat choked with emotion.
“I love you!” Silas cried, as he followed.
They both kept after us, sprinting wildly behind the cage. I watched their mouths moving, saying those words over and again, as the truck bounded through the woods and their small bodies disappeared, unreachable, behind the trees.
I loved reading the details about the City of the Sand. It’s such a familiar place but at the same time, so foreign in the realm it’s in. I also was on the edge of my seat every time Eve left the Palace in disguise! There were so many moments you had to hold your breath until the next page!
Great cover I would love,a preview copy
The first thing i want to say is i love your book they made me laugh and they have made me cry and both books kept me on my toes wanting to read more i don’t have really one part that my favorite i like them all but i liked when eve and her father was talking about her mother and he said “The only two people who can understand a relationship are the two people in it.” i would really love to have an advanced copy of rise
and Anna thank you for writing such a great story for us to enjoy i hope theirs many more to come
My favorite quote from Eve:
“I learned then a crucial truth: that a relationship between two people can be judged by the list of things unspoken between them.”
This is my favorite quote because it is so true, and in such a bittersweet way for me in regards to a past relationship.
I just got Once from the library and I can’t wait to start reading it!
“I learned the strange art of loneliness, the weathered yearning that swells and passes, and swells and passes, when you walk a trail alone.”
“Why is that funny? What are ‘balls’? Like the ball of your foot?”
I love that whole conversation. It’s funny and it shows how Eve is lacking of knowledge outside of that dreadful school. It’s quite humorous
Not a quote but the part where Eve sees the girls pregnant and restrained and realizes where she is going to end up. That hit me hard since you described the Twilight sleep a scary birthing procedure that has actually happened in our history and with me researching pregnancy and wanting to get pregnant it gripped me and pulled me into the story more than any beautifully written quote ever could. Terrifying and amazing you could hook me so completely!
I love it in Eve when she is teaching the boys and she has to explain the concept of love to them.
First off, Eve was an exceptional read.
My favourate scene from EVE was the very ending because not only was it a cliffhanger but it nearly brought tears to my eyes because of the romantic Good Bye ending.
“When he was nearly across, he turned back one last time, held his arm high, and waved. I love you, he seemed to say, moving it back and forth until I had seen. I waved back, too.
I love you, I love you, I love you.” It was adorable!
I also love Chapter thirty one: “Air blew in the window, rushing over my skin and tangling my hair. Golden dust coated Caleb’s face, his brown dreadlocks, even the skin behind his ears.” This gives a real vivid description of OUR Caleb.
“I love you, I love you, I love you.”
So, so excited for this one! Thanks, Anna!
“I learned the strange art of loneliness, the weathered yearning that swells and passes, and swells and passes, when you walk a trail alone.”
My favorite quote is
“I had once read, in one of those pre-plague books in the library, that love was bearing witness. That it was the act of watching someone’s life, of simply being there to say: you’re life is worth seeing.”
Honestly all the quotes about love and loneliness in the story were amazing
When she hugs Marjorie Hugs her and shes hesitate but hugs her anyways after saying shes safe.
First of all let me tell you that I love the idea and how it is presented the action dynamics but simplistic. Because my favourite quotes are related to love, I could note choose a better one<3
Love was the only opponent of death, the only thing powerful enough to fight off the desperate prinsoarea of it.
With respect and admiration,
Simona M.
When Eve says “I love you, I love you, I love you.” it was so pivotal!!!
Love was death’s only adversary, the only thing powerful enough to combat its clawing, desperate grasp’
“I love you, I love you, I love you.”
There’s a part of me that really hopes Caleb isn’t dead somehow. That’s what I’m wishing to see in Rise. I really can’t wait to get my hands on it!!
I love you, I love you, I love you. -Eve
I just love this quote! Made me cry…a little :]
I liked the twist of the king being Eve’s father. Usually I’m pretty good at guessing twists, but that one really surprised me. Loved the first two, looking forward to e third!
Favorite quote: “Did he know that he’d worked his way into my heart, that I missed him, even in sleep?
“‘Yes,’ was all I could manage. ‘Yes.’”
One of my favorite scenes from Eve. It made me cry.
Leif gripped Benny’s shoulders to hold him back, but he broke free and chased the truck, pumping his tiny arms and legs with great furry.
“I love you!” he called out, when he was just ten feet away. I gripped the metal bars, my throat choked with emotion.

They both kept after us, sprinting wildly behind the cage. I watched their mouths moving, saying those words over and again, as the truck bounded through the woods and their small bodies disappeared, unreachable, behind the trees.
“Loving someone meant knowing your life will be worse without them in it.” Eve by Anna Carey
“You can love anyone. Love is just caring about someone very deeply. Feeling like that
person matters to you, like your whole world would be sadder without them in it.”
There are a few scenes I love, but one of my favorite is in, “Eve”. When Eve shoots the two soldiers to save Caleb’s life. She was so brave in that moment, I just loved it!
My favorite scene:
“You can love anyone,” I interrupted, looking around at the group. “Love is just”-I searched for the right words-”caring about someone deeply. Feeling like that person matters to you, like your whole world be sadder without them in it.” I thought about Pip staccato laugh, or jumping from bed to bed with Ruby, the way we always did Saturday mornings, when we were waiting for our showers.
After a long pause, Benny glanced up. “I loved my brother,” he said.
“I loved my mother, too” I said. “I still do.
“Love is just”—I searched for the right words—“caring about someone very deeply. Feeling like that person matters to you, like your whole world would be sadder without them in it.”
Congratulations Francesca! You’ve been randomly chosen to win a copy of RISE. Please email your address to us through the “contact” page, using the subject line “RISE CONTEST”.
My favorite Scene was in once when eve sees Caleb in the crowd and feels like she is ok for the first time in a long time.
One of my favorite scenes was when caleb was telling eve about how leif used to be before his brother died, and caleb singing “my balls are sweating…” Hilarious! I just cant believe caleb is dead, that would be devastating and would mean the trilogy couldnt have the happy ending we want for eve.
I can not wait 217 days to read the next book! PLEASE, put me out of my misery and let me have a copy now!
I love Eve and Once. I could not put the books down ! It’s a real page turner. Not one part of the book was boring. I stayed up until 1:00am one day just to finish the book, Eve. I REALLY WANT TO WIN RISE !!!!!!!!!!! Because the other two books were so suppeniceful, Page turning, exciting, shocking and creative !

“Sometimes it seems like all the things I need to know, I don’t. And all the things I do know are completely wrong.”
Looking forward to this one! Thanks for this wonderful giveaway!
I have a lot of fav scenes from the first two books, but I really loved the first book. It was the first book I have read that I litterly couldn’t put down. I pretty much hid in my room for two days while I read it! I think the best scene is when caleb leaves eve at the end, I like that scene because of how much the relationship between eve and caleb has changed from her not trusting him at all to be heartbroken at having to go on with out him. And the best quote is when eve says ‘iloveyou iloveyou iloveyou’. I would LOVE a copy of rise, I think having to wait till I can buy it will drive me crazy! Thanks for an amazing story!!!
My favorite quote was the “I love you, I love you, I love you.” My boyfriend just left for basic training for the army so I plan to be using this quote a lot in the letters I will be writing him.
The letter Eve’s mother wrote to her in the first book was pretty awesome, just as awesome as the King’s manipulation throughout ONCE. But I loved this quote:
“It was only a destination for us, never a life to be lived.” -from EVE
I am in love with the Eve series!!!! I just started reading the series and I am so pumped for Rise!!! I was a little upset about the cliff hanger at the end of Once. I so wanted to read the next book that I was actually jumping up and down! I was so sad when Caleb had been shot by a soldier and Eve had to marry in order to save Caleb. With Caleb being dead, Eve is now in a terrible crises!!!
Put me out of my misery and let me read Rise!! I can’t wait much longer!!!!!
My favorite quote was Caleb ” Benny told me that loving someone meant knowing that your life would be worse without them in it” then he says to Eve “Thats why i had to find you”.Oh my goodness my heart fell. The way he loves her makes me so happy and the fact that she is learning she loves him is so sweet.I just fell in love with this series the best one i have read in two years.
I love these books. I started reading them early on in my pregnancy i had stumbled across them at random. I have just started reading Once two days ago and am almost done. I feel so bad for the girls in the schools who bring children into a shattered world that they won’t ever get to love or raise. How can the king think he’s a father? He was never there to be a father to begin with. How could he have child in one of those schools and not rethink them? They’re horrendous. I can’t wait to read Rise!
Here’s a graphic version of my favorite quote from Eve I’ve made several months back!
http://kisskitkatey.blogspot.com/2012/05/book-lines_28.html
I love both books so much it is hard to pick one quote or one scene so i am writing one scene that made my heart jump. I pick the scene where Eve visits Arden at the school and slips her the key to the gate. This part was especially powerful to me. “I grabbed her hand and held it up in front of me. I closed my eyes as I kissed her palm, releasing the small key into it” I really love this and it nearly brought a tear to my eye knowing Arden will escape again.
i would love to read rise!
“I loved my mother too,’ I said. ‘I still do. That’s the thing – it never goes away, even if the person does.”
I cannot wait until the final installment of this trilogy. I was up late reading them both and I am sure that Rise will end with a bang!
I LOVE THE BOOKS EVE AND ONCE.MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTE LOVE THE STORY’S AS WELL AS I DO.WE WERE SO UNHAPPY TO KNOW THAT RISE WOULD NOT BE OUT TILL APRIL.WE CAN’T WAIT BUT WE HAVE TOO.I HAVE YOUR 3 BOOKS ON MY TIMELINE ON FACEBOOK.THATS HOW MUCH WE LOVE THE STORYS.I HOPE I CAN WIN THE BOOK FOR MY DAUGHTER ANGELICA.SHE IS ALREADY TELLING HER FRIENDS AND TEACHER ABOUT THE BOOKS.SHE HAS ALREADY SHARE THE EVE BOOK 4 X TO FRIENDS AND RELATIVE.LIKE MY SISTER ETHEL WE FINISHED BOTH BOOKS IN 4 DAYS.WE WERE SO HOOK ON THE STORY LINE I COULDN’T PUT ONCE DOWN TILL I FINISHED READING IT AT 3AM IN THE MORNING.WE LOVE YOUR BOOKS
I need this book like now! I read Once and I was upset at the ending. Not that it was a bad ending, but just that it left me needing the next book right then and there. The entire series is just amazing and Once was even better than Eve. I can’t really choose a favorite part, since it was just plain amazing. If I had to pick my favorite is when Eve got pictures of Caleb being released, even though the pictures weren’t true. I love that part because it felt like a win for Eve with hope that they will be together, although it made me mad when she found out that it was all a lie. So I really need the next book to find out if Caleb is truly dead and how Eve deals with her husband, that she doesn’t want.
Just one favorite scene/quote??? For me, it to be the entire plot of ‘Once’. Just the idea of a daughter’s duty to her father was so symbolic of society stepping backward instead of moving forward; of the sacrifices that are made in times of crisis that benefit no one but those in power; that sometimes true love does not conquer all…or does it?
Really truly I did not see the plot of ‘Once’ coming after reading ‘Eve’. It kept me engaged and on my toes. I was truly expecting a direction in the sequel, and I loved every moment of it.
Thanks for the opportunity! Good luck to everyone entering,
Crys
Realised I put .co.uk, on my email address, its actualy .com, ooops. Same email just ends in .com. Thanks.
“I love you, I love you, I love you.”
– Eve
The whole book was AMAZING! Cant wait to read Rise!!!!
My favorite quotes from eve are…
In the panic I saw only flashes: Benny’s crumpled face, Kevin pushing forward, Aaron falling in the dirt, his side scraped red.
I kept my gaze on Silas and Benny, their tiny bodies heaving with sobs.
“I love you” he called out, when he was just ten feet away. I gripped the metal bars, my throat choked.”I love you” Sailas cried, as he followed.
My favorite scenes/quotes from Once are…
i inched closer to her, letting my head rest on her shoulder. I lay like that for a while, listening to her breaths, each one a faint reminder that i was no longer alone.
I was with my friend. We were out on the windblown water, alone and free.
But my whole body knew him, the tears were coming fast as we stared at eachother, letting the truth of it sink in.
Caleb had found me
“I fallen in love with you”
“I love you to, ” i mouthed
“i’ll marry Charles if that’s what you want- if thats what you think i’m supposed to do. But you have to let Caleb go,”
The ceremony was about to begin
I totally loved it when Eve’s curiousity got the better of her and she followed Arden and escaped. You had me from the very beginning!!
My favourite quote from the book has to be the very first line i read:
I have a new outlook on life now and I’m really grateful, this series has really saved me.
“Maybe I don’t really want to know what’s going on. Maybe I’d rather not know. Maybe I couldn’t bear to know. The Fall was a fall from innocence to knowledge.” -Margaret Atwood (from pages preceeding EVE)
It’s not a quote from the story per se, but it feels like the overarching theme of both books. It’s what started Eve’s journey and she changes and learns through the course of the story, exposed to the real world. And this quote paints the story’s picture in its entirety, I feel. It doesn’t stop at just Eve’s exposure to the harsh reality she was faced with that night she caught Arden, it’s also about her struggle between her head and her heart, where she had to learn the true nature of love (not that which she learnt in school) and how she had to make heart-wrenching decisions time and again for those she loved (especially CALEB!) even if she didn’t want to. She learned the true meaning of so many things which she was taught (wrongly) when her eyes were opened to the brutality of reality.
My favourite scene would be the first time Caleb reassures Eve and says that he won’t leave her even though she couldn’t swim. It was really such a sweet moment between the two!! If I were Eve, I’d have known right then that Caleb was a keeper. (but I’m not Eve) Personally, I honestly believed that at that moment, both Caleb and Eve realised something deep within their souls, for Caleb to say something so simple yet so loving and for Eve to hear it and subsequently trust Caleb enough. Also, it was just the right mix of suspense and fluffiness for me (and my heart) to handle. I also like how it was one of the less melancholic moments between the two.
Honestly, something I can’t quite name attracted me to have a double take on the book (‘Eve’) when I was in the library scouring the new arrivals section. I almost didn’t notice the little paperback hiding behind a thicker hard cover book, but I’m so glad I reached for it and borrowed it and finished reading it within a day. I was thrilled to learn that there were 2 more books in the series. Thanks for the great story so far Anna
My favorite part of Eve is when Caleb starts singing Leif’s song. I let my friends borrow the book and they started cracking up and asked me for the next one.
“Fine. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.” He cleared his throat in mock seriousness. “My,” he crooned, his voice completely our of tune, “balls are sweating, my balls are sweating, I can’t keep my balls from sweating noooo, noooo, noooo!”
…”Why is that funny? What are ‘balls’? Like the ball of your foot?”
“It’s…” he said, his face crumpled. “Like these things that…” he paused, as if deep in thought, and then shook his head suddenly. “No, I’m sorry, I can’t. It’s just funny, Eve. Trust me.”
My favorite quote is “When he was nearly across, he turned back one last time, held his arm high, and waved. I love you, he seemed to say, moving it back and forth untill I had seen. I waved back, too. I love you, I love you, I love you.” -Eve
So, I finished reading Once on my NOOK and was like WHAT?! NOOOOOOO! THAT CAN’T BE THE END!!!!!!! But, then I was like oooh I’ll just buy the next book, only to realize it doesn’t come out for months!!!!!! By then, my day had been ruined and I was freaking out all I wanted, was to know what happened, so then I saw this contest and knew I had to enter!!!! It would be soooooo awesome to win Rise!!!!
My favorite part from Eve:
Was when Eve was in the woods with Caleb and they’re talking about how Leif was before and the song Caleb and Leif used to sing at the labor camp and Eve is like “What? What’s so funny? What are Balls? Like the Balls of your feet? Hahhaahaha I laughed so much!
My Favorite EVE Quote:
“Sometimes it seems like all the things I need to know, I don’t. And all the things I do know are completely wrong.”
My favorite ONCE part:
When Harper comes in after Caleb and Eve, well, ya, and He’s like “See! I knew it!!! I knew something was wrong!” The way you described him was sooooo funny!
My favorite ONCE quote:
” I’ll marry Charles if that’s what you want- if that’s what I’m supposed to do. But you have to let Caleb go.” I thought it was so sweet that she was willing to marry someone she hated just for Caleb’s safety.
I absolutely love the Eve trilogy! It is spectacular, and I was so mad when we were left hanging at the end of Once. I had a hard time choosing my favorite scene/quote because it is all so good. But here goes…
My favorite quote from Eve is, “I stopped crying, surprised by the warmth of his skin against my own. He was so close that I could feel each of his soft breaths. His green eyes were bright, illuminated by the sudden glow of the flashlight beam. “I’m not going to leave you.”" (pg 77)
My favorite quote from Once is, “We were supposed to be together.
But instead I was here, more alone than I’d ever been, the diamond tiara heavy on my head.” (pg 215)
I love how the first quote shows Caleb’s love for Eve, and the second shows Eve’s love for Caleb through her sacrifice.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH OMG. Seriously can not wait for this book! It’s gonna be epic. I loved both books. So excited for the third one!
And so it’s very very hard to pick…but my favorite scene was when she was willing to marry in order to save Caleb.
My favorite scene in Once is at the very end. She’s reeling from her loss of Caleb, trying to process everything that happened in such a short amount of time when her father hands her a note from her mother, especially for her wedding day. I cried when I read the letter, thinking of what it would take for a dying mother to write such a note (which I assume/hope isn’t the only one she left) to her daughter knowing that she could not physically be there and hoping the words conveyed the love she truly felt for her.
My favorite scene is from Once, the airplane hanger/airplane scene. Sigh…that was so romantic!
Thank you for the giveaway!

“There are millions of stars, each one shining and burning out at the same time. they die like everything else- you have to appreciate them before they’re gone.”
-Once
I loved the wholrbrelationship between Caleb and eve! It’s hard to choose just one momment, I devourered and loved the first two stories! I need rise!
There are just too many to choose from. I loved both books and can hardly wait for the next one. “I love you, I love you, I love you” seems like an appropriate choice because I love, love, love this story!
Can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait!
When Benny and Silas run after the truck is one of my favorite scenes. Seriously, MY ACHING HEART, Anna! But it was so good, too. Gosh… *Sighs*…
Thank you for the opportunity, Anna! <3!
*Crosses fingers*
- Ava
My favorite quote: “”I’m going with you to Califia.” He turned to me. “We’ll get there.” There was something about that word-we-that comforted me. There was no longer him. There was no longer me. There was us.”
-Eve
I liked this quote because it was so heart warming and Eve had finally had something good happen to her after the last few days!
I realllllllllly would love to get an advanced copy of Rise!!! Is Caleb really dead? Please Please tell me he’s not!
great books realy enjoyed them can hardly wait for the next one
I love the covers for this series! I’m so sad it’s almost over
“You aren’t here to bear my child.” He let out a strange laugh. “You are my child.” He pulled me toward him, cradling my head in his hand, and kissed my forehead. “My Genevieve.”
Once, p. 81
It was a relief, but still somewhat creepy, right? Haha
Thanks for the contest Anna!
Ouu i have so many to choose from! my fave scene would have to be the one when eve sees caleb through the crowd. definitely best moment so far
I can’t wait for the last book!!
My favorite quote is from Eve, “When he was nearly across, he turned back one last time, held his arm high, and waved. I love you, he seemed to say, moving it back and forth until I had seen. I waved back, too. I love you, I love you, I love you.”
“Sometimes it seems like all the things I need to know, I don’t. And all the things I do know are completely wrong.”
Since I feel like this at least once a week…
One of my favorite quotes from the books is:
“I had once read, in one of those pre-plague books in the library, that love was bearing witness. That it was the act of watching someone’s life, of simply being there to say: you’re life is worth seeing.”
-EVE
My favorite scene is in eve when Caleb teaches her to swim and everything is so simple and good- for what might be the last time.
My favorite scene is when Eve spots Caleb in the crowd, in the city of sand and then he gives her the note to meet him.
“Love was death’s only adversary, the only thing powerful enough to combat its clawing, desperate grasp.”
My fav…I see I’m not the only one.
My favorite scene in Eve is when Eve loses contact with Arden but is found by Caleb and he takes her Califia. My favorite in Once is when Eve realizes it is Arden approaching Califia and runs to her and is reunited but soon find out they have to escape together again.
My favorite scene and also one that made me cry was when Arden sacrifices herself so Eve can get away.
“You would do the same for me,” she interrupted. “You already did.”
“I let the wound fester and grow, feeding on the silence between us. I learned then a crucial truth: that a relationship between two people can be judged by the list of things unspoken between them.”
I’ve never been good with words; especially in a relationship…it has always been the silent moments that will tell me more, I love that Eve got that! I can’t wait for Risen! This is such a powerful serious that has kept me on my toes! Thanks for giving me something to lose sleep over besides grad school!
I have only read the book eve i haven’t read once just yet but i’m working on getting it. My favorite part of the entire eve book was when Caleb and Eve were reunited in the dessert. It touched my heart to know that they were brought back together but when they got to Califia, I almost cried. I never would have guessed that it was an only girls place. Caleb won’t be able to survive with the wound he has and Eve won;t be able to survive without him. I feel if you give me the book, I will take care of and respect every selection you have made when making this book because I know how hard it is to make a book. I have been working on ideas and started a few but never was able to finish them because I always got writers block partly into writing them. I hope you pick me.
~Savannah
My favorite part of Once was when Eve and Caleb were in the airplane pretending to be flying all around the world together and the rest of the scene. From the pretending, to the playfulness, to the passion, I felt that these two people could defy all odds, become more than the, “Romeo and julliet” of their time and live their much deserved happily ever after.
Oh my I can’t wait for RISE to come out! My favorite quote From ONCE doesn’t involve Caleb, but Charles to Eve.
This is what I want. You are what I want…I have to believe that you’ll want
it,too – Maybe not right now. But someday. Probably sooner than you
think
I can’t help but wonder what Charles thinks about the arranged mairrage and about how it could be between Eve and him. I’m wondering if Eve could fall in love (again) with Charles this time. He seems gentle. I love that he’s already passionate about her. You can tell that he has hope, hope that Eve will eventually feel the same about him as he does her.
I would love to read rise NOW! I read the first two in four days! I was ready to jump in the book and kill the king myself when Eve deciphered the message that the king had lied about releasing Caleb – although I had a suspicion that was the way it was going to happen.
I love how I always felt what Eve was feeling when she talked to her Father. I felt frustrated and angry at her dad for being so ignorant and callous to what she wanted and felt. He was a very fake, cruel person.
Quote from Once,
“You’ve only seen a fraction of the world, and yet you stand in judgement. I was the one who made the difficult decisions.”-The King
He is so twisted that he is trying to make her believe that she is misunderstanding the world. I really don’t like The King. I really wish Caleb was not dead, because he was almost Eve’s life. I can’t wait to read Rise, and see if Eve really does kill the king. To the author: you should release the book earlier!!!!!!!
Can’t wait to read Rise!!!!!
My favorite quote would have to be “if you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say anything at all ” when eve is talking to Charles about his work. I think its very true. love the series can not wait for rise!!!
I am beyond jealous of you, Anna. I WANT ONE! <3 So keeping my fingers and toes crossed for this giveaway. <3 Dying dying dying to read Rise
Sigh. Loved Eve and Once so much. <3
Favorite scene from Once. (SPOILERS)
I loved all the parts with Eve and Caleb. But favorite scene was with them in the airplane hangar. They were so sweet, and I loved it a whole lot. <3
Love, Carina
One of the moments that touched me deepest in the eve books was the time that Eve and Caleb on the way back from the airplane hanger and he gets caught by the army and Eveloving Caleb offers every thing that keeps her being her to save Caleb. I know that i didnt give much detail about the things that are said or that happen in the book but I truely dislike being a spoiler for someone else who reads these wonderfully written truely heart touching books. Thank you for writing such a great story for me to read and enjoy.
I can’t remember the last time a book brought me through so much emotions. I laughed, cried, loved, hurt, and kept dreaming with Eve and the other characters that makes this story so deep and intense. It proves to be better every time I reread the books.
I can not remember the last time a book touched me so deep in my core. As I am trying to write this tears are still streaming from my eyes.
My first favorite was ….”I’m going with you to Califia.” He turned to me. “We’ll get there.” There was something about that word-we-that comforted me. There was no longer him. There was no longer me. There was us.”
And then this tragic line which I feel deep in my soul. Although I may not have a tiara on my head I also lost my love way to young to death and feel as though I’m standing in someone’s else’s life. I know the pain she is feeling losing Caleb that way and how empty her heart and soul are with him no longer being a hope. So my other favorite is….
“We were supposed to be together. But instead I was here, more alone than I’d ever been, the diamond tiara heavy on my head.”
“I’ll marry Charles if that’s what you want—if that’s what you think I’m supposed to do. But you have to let Caleb go.”
I have so many favorites! I spent last night crying because I finished ‘Once’. Goodness, my heart is in pieces. Just… HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US? I can’t wait till 4/13. I might just go insane.
My favorite scene is :
I wasn’t sure what perverse thoughts he was thinking about me, a girl he’d found alone in the woods. I pulled my T-shirt away from my breasts.
“Whatever you’re planning, it’s not going to work.” I said, straighting up to make myself appear bigger than I was. I eyed the three dead rabbits that were slung over the horse’s neck, their feet bound with twine.
The boy glanced back at me and smiled. Despite his poor hygenie, his teeth were perfect – so straight and white. “And what is it that I’m planning? Really, I’d love to hear.”
We were trotting down the highway now, the metal gaurdrails barely visible beneath the wines. “You want to have intercourse with me.” I said matter-of-factly.
The boy laughed, a loud, raucous laugh, his hand slapping the horse’s neck. “I want to have intercourse with you?” he repeated, as if he hadn’t heard it right the first time.
“That’s right.” I said more loudly. “And I’ll tell you now, I will not let that happen. Not even if..”
“… I was the last man on Earth?” He looked at the vast, unpopulated landscape and flashed a mischevious grin. His eyes were the pale green of grapes.
“Preciesly.” I nodded. I was glad he could at least speak and understand poper English. I wasn’t having nearly as much trouble communicating as I would’ve thought.
“Well, thats good.” The boy said. “Because I don’t want to have intercourse with you anyway. You’re not my type.”
I laughed then too, until I realized he wasn’t kidding. He kept his eyes straight ahead as he maneuvered the horse off the highway and onto a moss-covered street, urging it around holes in the pavement.
“What do you mean ‘I’m not your type’? I asked.
The plague had killed far more females than males. As one of the few women in The New America, especially an educated, civilized woman, I’d always supposed I was every man’s type.
The boy glanced at me once and shrugged, “Eh” he muttered.
Eh? I was intelligent, I worked hard. I was told I was beautiful. I was Eve, the valedictorian of School. And all he could say was, eh?
His shoulders shook a little. I looked at his face and realized for the first time during our ride, that he was teasing me. He was making a joke.
“You find yourself very funny, don’t you?”
My hand hurts from typing all that, but oh well! I really hope I win, I want to read ‘Rise’ so bad! I’d buy it if I could.
Gasp! I just finished reading Once this morning and had no idea that Rise wasn’t released yet! I will sit here in this chair until it is available!!!!
I LOVED the scene where Eve swims across, and sees the girls in the room. I loved the part where she sees Sophia strapped to the bed, and she really realizes that the school isn’t such a good place. I love how it was written, it was amazing. Ah!
This is going to seem slightly silly, but I loved the quote :
‘He was a strange breed of man, part wild’
I loved the quote ‘The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was the sky : a blue, boundless thing that was so much bigger than I had ever imagined.’
It just shows that Eve hasn’t really ever seen the world, or how wonderful it could be.
waaaaaaah! thank you so much for giving this giveaway!♥
i’m anticipating the second and third book! but i will buy Once soon~ :> XD
“Sometimes it seems like all the things I need to know, I don’t. And all the things I do know are completely wrong.”
this is just one of the quotes i love! can’t wait anymore to read Once! XD Once I get to buy it, i’ll read it right away and then i wouldn’t be able to wait for Rise~
HAHAHA!
I had such a hard time choosing my favorite part/scene/quote from Eve & Once, because there are so many! But eventually I remembered this particular part where Eve is watching Caleb and the other boys swim and what her thoughts are. So beautiful and so true!
My Photoshop heart just had to use these words to make something and I would love to share it with you:
http://i49.tinypic.com/wjgino.jpg
“And once I imagined there was no wedding–no ceremony, no big white dress, none of the tradition–just you and him lying beside each other one night and deciding that was it. From now on, you’d always be together.”
My favourite part of the books is how Eve and Caleb love each other completely and equally even tho all the odds are against them. I read the first book one evening and had to order the second straight away next day delivery! Thank you Anna Carey this is my kind of love story!
so many amazing quotes & scenes but its this one that sticks in my head:
“My balls are sweating, my balls are sweating, i cant keep my balls from sweating, noooo, noooo, noooo!”
immature i know, but too funny
“But remember Eve, …you aren’t queen yet.”
I loved the scene where Benny & Silas were chasing the truck after Eve was sold, pumping their arms, and shouting ‘I love you’.
The scene where Eve and Caleb were hiding out in the helicopter! It was soooooo cute!
i loved where Eve was thinking that caleb was a strange breed of man like part willd
Personally I loved Eve thinking the bear cub was Winnie
‘There was something about that word – we- that comforted me. There was no longer him. There was no longer me. There was us.”
I loved the scene where Caleb was trying to help Eve across the river. He wouldn’t leave her there to be captured, and it was adorable.
I am going to Califia.
I am with Caleb.
I am happy.
The scene where Arden scared Eve right before she got sick! It was to funny! :’)
The goodbye in Califia was sweet.
I love you, I love you, I love you.
The scene where Eve meets the dugout boys for the first time. lmbo!
“Ninety-eight percent of the population is dead, Eve. Gone. How do you think the world is going to continue? They don’t need artists. They need babies.”
I loved the first kiss scene!
“He won’t stop looking at you. There is some kind of insanity in his eyes”
The scene where eve + caleb were driving and talking cuz it was cute!
“I didn’t know which was worse: to be killed by some brute animal or to be taken off with some wild Neanderthal on horseback.”
The scene where Eve went to Caleb’s room and they talked. She seemed to fnally be coming around to him.
I have the same name as one of Eve’s best friends!
haha
I loved the cuddling scene on the way to Califia : ‘After days of wondering, imagining, and wanting, he was there beside me.’
I loved when Caleb taught Eve to swim
I loved the happy dancing part of the raid scene
)
My favorite part of Once would have to be when she is in the city parade and sees Caleb for the first time since the incident with Leif, the joy and elation she feel as she greets the crowd in hopes to reach him. Their smiles, the happiness they feel, and then knowing she had a secret note from him.
I just finished Once and got online looking for a date for the next book! I’m an avid reader and would LOVE to continue Eve’s story!!!
I just love once because of it’s unexcpected events and the feelig it gives me and I just want to add that I teared a little while reading your amazing book!!.. so my favorite part of the book is when eve finds out that Caleb dies and starts denying it and when she finds out that Beatrice was the one who told the king because he said he would kill her daughter
<3
These books were Breathtaking! I cant stress enough about how much I loved these books! I experienced so many emotions with these books, curiosity, fear, sadness, pain, Love! Eve and Once are the types of books that keep you thinking about them long after your done reading them!
My favorite quote would have to be when she goes to see Caleb in prison and she remembers moments, memories between him and her.
” A minute passed. Maybe two. Memories piled on top of one another-moments between us- the feel of the horse beneath us as we hurled over the ravine, the dank, earthy smell of the dugout on our skin. He’d grabbed my hand that night as we walked through the cool corridor, the warmth of it sending a fiery charge up my arm. It spread out in my chest, shot down my legs, awakening feeling in every inch of me, electrifying even my toes. Until then I’d been half-alive, his touch the only thing that could wake me from that sleep.

My favorite part is when Caleb and Eve first meet….so cute and funny all at once.
“I love you, I love you, I love you.”
Can’t wait to read Rise!
One of my fav quotes is from Beatrice: “You’d do anything for the person you loved,” she said finally. “And then when you don’t think you can give any more of yourself, you do. You keep going. Because it would kill you not to.”
“Sometimes it seems like all the things I need to know, I don’t. And all the things I do know are completely wrong.”
This is a wonderful quote, and so true!
I don’t have a favorite scene, exactly. But my favorite part about was watching the friendship between Eve and Arden grow. I want to see more of Arden!
I just got done reading Eve and loved it!! One of the best I have read this year alone.
One of my fave quotes is:
“loving someone meant knowing your life will be worse without them in it.”
― Eve
So true! Thank you for this giveaway! I am going to start reading Once very soon.
- Beckie
AHH YAY! I can’t wait to read Rise!! I don’t think I can love this series more than I do now.
My favourite quote is “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
Simple, but effective. and sweet, and adorable and AH! I can keep going forever.
Thanks for the chance to win!
There are so many scenes that I love, but by far I love the scene when Eve teaches the boys how to read in the first book and how she and Caleb would debate how the books were meant to be interpreted.
I can’t WAIT to read Rise!
My favorite part of Eve was when she was attacked by a Bear. That was very funny. She tried to pet the bear cub and mama bear got mad.
The Eve Trilogys are one of my favorite books to read i reread them all the time. I have read Eve 10 times and Once 11 times. I love these books with all my heart and i really want to finish the Trilogy real bad. My favorite part/quote in the book Once is:The King stared out the window, beyond the City. I closed my eyes, listening to the air coming through the vents, waiting for him to respond. All I could see was Caleb’s face. Last night we lay awake, his head resting against my heart. The plane was silent. “I almost have it” he’d said, his eyes half-closed. “One more time.” I slipped my hand beneath the blanket, pressing my finger into his back and dragging it along his skin, spelling the letters out one by one, slower than before. When i was finished he looked up, his nose practically touching mine, a smile curling on his lips. “I know” he’d said, burying his face into my neck. “I Love You, Too.”
Congratulations Hannah! You’ve been randomly chosen for the copy of RISE. Please email your address to the site via the “contact” page, using the subject line “RISE CONTEST”.
Oh please I need to have this. This is an amazing book series and I want to be able to understand more of it. I recommend it to everyone. Let me have it. Por favor yo necesito tener el libro, la historia de Eva es interesante y es la busca a la verdad. I’m from Puerto Rico and from all the way I say I need it.
THE scene where eve finds out who her dad is!
“I’ve fallen in love with you,” he whispered, kneeling to kiss the top of my hand.
The first time you have the courage to say it outloud is such a memorable moment. I love the books and I can not wait to read “Rise”. Thank you for writing them.
My favorite quote is probably “Love was death’s only adversary, the only thing powerful enough to combat its clawing, desperate grasp.” and my favorite scene was definitely when Eve saw Caleb in the crowd looking at her and how she asked to greet the crowd just to see him and how he gave her the slip of paper that was in between his fingers.. I think it was really sweet! Love the books soooooo much and really want a copy of Rise soon!
This is one of my favorites from Eve!!
“Sometimes it seems like all the things I need to know, I don’t. And all the things I do know are completely wrong.”
I really liked when Eve went back to the school to visit her friends. I loved watching her relationship with Arden grow and that visit showed how much she truly cares for her despite their rocky start.
I love these books!! Here is one of my favorite quotes
“You do anything for the person you love,” she said finally. “And then when you don’t think you can give any more of yourself, you do. You keep going. Because it would kill you not to.”
“I love you, I love you, I love you.” is my favorite quote along with “Love was death’s only adversary, the only thing powerful enough to combat its clawing, desperate grasp.”
and my favorite scene is when Caleb is in the crowd and Eve sees him and greets the crowd just to be able to see him.
i really love the series so far and devoured the first two books!!!!!!!! i really cant wait for Rise!!!
Omgosh! I just saw this post! How did I miss it! I hope I’m making it in on time!
My favorite scene is where Eve see’s Caleb again for the first time in the City of Sand
Love them two!!
AHHHHHHHH!!! My favorite scene in once was when she was in sitting down looking into the crowd and saw caleb! so excited to read Rise and im soo glad i came on the website just in time for this!!
My favorite scene is from Eve, when Eve and Arden were being taken away from he dugout and Silas and Benny ran after the truck screaming “I love you”.
That scene is too cute and broke my heart.
*****EXCELLENT READING***********************
I cannot give you a best line from the first two books as I was lent them from a friend and don’t have them with me. When my friend told me about the story line and I borrowed them I thought “Oh yeah probably not my type of story, GEE how I was wrong!!”
What an amazing storyline and what suspense that you have written. I love the fact that Eve is so innocent and that she feels so strong emotions for her first love. I have to say I finished them in a night each, I couldn’t put either of them down. A great read and then I was so disappointed to find out we had to wait till April!! I feel I can’t wait that long as I want to know what happens to Eve, Caleb and her father and the rebellion.
Then I stumbled across this competition so hopefully my friend and I don’t have to wait till April, Thanks.
My other favorite pert is is the book Eve when the are climing the mts and they start talking when they both go into the tentand they say: My breaths slowed; my fear subsided; my chest no longer termbled. Calbe brought his hand to my cheek, wiping the last of the snow from my eyelashes. “Benny told me that loving someone meant knowing that your life would be worse without them in it.” He smiled. “Where did he get that idea?”

Calbe brought his hand to my cheek, wiping the last of the snow from my eyelashes. “Benny told me that loving someone meant knowing that your life would be worse without them in it.” He smiled. “Where did he get that idea?” My skin felt hot underneth his fingers. I smiled back at him, not saying anything. He leaned in closer, tracing invisible lines across my cheekbones. “That’s why I had to find you.” His lips pressed against mine, his arms tightened around my shoulder. I lifted my chinup, surrendering into his kiss. I couldn’t stop. I thought fleetingly of the years of lessons-of Juliet’s foolishness and Anna Karenina and Edna Pontellier. But for the first time, I knew: It was all for a moment. It was all too good to be missed.
Caleb dipped the oar in the water, his muscles straining with the effort. The lights danced on the surface of the canal as we glided toward the bridge. “What if I’m killed tomorrow?” he said, pressing his lips together. “What does it matter then? I’m alive here, today…”
From Eve, one of my favorite scenes is when Eve and Arden are being taken from the dugout and Benny and Silas run after the truck screaming I Love You!
From Once, I hate that Heddy had to die but one of my favorite scenes was when you see how much Arden loves her when she couldn’t just walk away from her wounded dog, the one thing she had allowed herself to truly love.
For the Sunlight revealed walls made not of rough stones, but of hundreds of skulls, the black hollow eye cavities peering back at me. I covered my mouth to keep from screaming. “Just a morgue” the man yelled….
One of the moments I was like what??? didn’t see that coming!
Would love the next one!
“‘You can love anyone,’ I interrupted, looking at the group. ‘Love is just’ -I searched for the right words- ‘caring about someone very deeply. Feeling like that person matters to you, like your whole world would be sadder without them in it.’”
I fell in love with Eve instantly and waited on pins and needles for Once to come out. When I finally got the money to buy the book it took me two days to read it, and I practically threw it at the wall when the ending left me where it did. I would give almost anything to read Rise early! Books like the ones in this trilogy are gifts from God in my eyes.
Oh my gosh.. so so so much to choose from! I fell in love with the Eve book, I never wanted to put it down, same with the second book as well, I’ve laughed, cried, smile, all of the above while reading these two books, and I cannot wait til the last!
A couple favorites.. “He was a strange breed of man, part wild. Not the sophisticated kind who graced the pages of The Great Gatsby. Nor did he seem like the violent man I’d encountered on my first day in the wild. He had saved me, at least. I could only hope that it wasn’t for some nefarious purpose.”
“You can love anyone. Love is just caring about someone very deeply. Feeling like that
person matters to you, like your whole world would be sadder without them in it.”
“did he know that he worked his way into my dreams, where i missed him even in sleep”
<3
“Love was death’s only adversary, the only thing powerful enough to combat its clawing, desperate grasp.”
Hi Anna,
My favorite quote from Eve has to be this one. I love the way the narrator on the audiobook says it:
“I had once read, in one of those pre-plague books in the library, that love was bearing witness. That it was the act of watching someone’s life, of simply being there to say: you’re life is worth seeing.”
Very nice quote, I’ve always wondered is that from an actual novel
Ahh, I don’t have a favorite!
Thanks, Anna!
I love every moment in the books but my absolute favorite is when Caleb tells Eve he loves her after their boat ride and hot kiss.
“We’re going to leave.” He stroked the side of my cheek. “If you’ll come with me. I want to go east, away from the City. It’ll be a risk, but it’s a risk everywhere. We’d be on the run agian, which isn’t what either of us want, but please, at least consider it.”
i didn’t heistat. “of course.” I brought my hands to his face, watching the lantern light on his skin. “It’s not even a question.”
This is also one of my many favorite parts
Dear Anna,
This is my favorite part of Eve . . .
Thanks
Reallyyyyy wanttttttt thisssssss bookkkkkkk
my favorite scene would be in the first book. It is when eve it describing love to everyone. That is easily my favorite part.
thz
I finished these books in about 5 (3 days waiting for avid reader to ship it here T_T) Well I absolutely loved the books >3.< !
Oh, my God. I fell in love with your books after reading less than a chapter. I thought Once was the end of the series (Yes, take note I had read it was a trilogy. Talk about brain fart) and I ran around my house crying about Caleb. This is a fantastic series of books, and you have a very captivating and unique style of writing. Can’t wait until Rise comes out. I’m dying to find out what happens next! <3
I remember the first time I picked up the first book in the Eve trilogy and I just couldn’t put it down. I LOVE Eve and when i got through reading Eve I just had to go get Once. I felt bad for Eve the whole time I was reading Once and the ending of Once made me thirst for the next book. I absolutely can’t wait for Rise ot come out; I’m getting it the first day it comes out. Anna Carey I’m proud to give you my money xD
I just got the book from my library couple days ago and only read it yesterday. I finished it too yesterday and found something amazing, compelling about Eve. I loved the book and was very inspired by Eve’s courage. I’d like to find out what happens in the next book, which I’m trying to get, and then the last one. It makes you think, doesn’t it, of what it’d be like to be in her position. As a girl, your life is the same throughout your younger years everyday and just when you think you get freedom, the desires of your heart is washed away. As if someone just took the happiness out of you. I can’t wait until Rise is out! Thanks for sharing your Eve with everyone. Thank you Eve for sharing your hope.
“I can’t sit around doing nothing. I already gave you up once before-I won’t do it again.”
When I saw that Caleb died, I was like “No no no no! This can’t happen! That’s not cool.” And then started to cry. I’ve never been so emotional about a book before lol ! I cried, laughed, and got excited when eve and Caleb had their love moment lol
I have been in school, home,EVERYWHERE and Im just thinking of rise the whole freaking time… im counting the days and saying to my fiends and family “this much days left!” and they always say “CAN U SSTOP SAYING THAT” TYTYTYTY sooo much anna carey for giving this book in to my life beacuse i hated reading before eve and now im reading all kinds of books love them ALL <3<3<3
please tell me caleb is alive somehow in the third book because it’s caleb and eve and eve and caleb only…that’s it no other way which would make me extremely happy and if he’s dead ill just hate it…can you post an early excerpt of rise…chapters 2 or maybe just the first chapter…then ill promise ill just wait like everyone and I think everyone will be gratefull if you give us a small excerpt
please reply to the above comment
I would love a copy!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):)
“I loved my mother too,’ I said. ‘I still do. That’s the thing – it never goes away, even if the person does.” – Eve
